Time for a big ol' Nexus Block party

On a sleepy summer morning a wonderful smell begins to waft throughout the Nexus. For those familiar with this place there can only be one explanation but for those new faces to the nexus this may be a strange thing: seeing so many people flocking toward the sweet and savory scents perfuming the Nexus.

There are a few tables set out this morning in the Plaza in front of a small cafe loaded with several carafes of coffee, a myriad of pastries from more than a few different worlds and cultures, and a large pan of eggs and sausage kept warm over a chafing dish. On either end of the table are disposable plates, cups, and cutlery as well as a few welcome pamphlets in a small container. Along the front of the tables is a hand made banner.

Meet and Greet

Manning the tables is Katsuya Suou, red apron on and a cup of coffee in hand. He looks far too cheerful for how early in the morning it is. It's always satisfying to put one of these on and see the throngs of different people stuck in line together to get their food and find a place to sit among the tables and couches nearby.

"Right then, is anyone hungry? I've got more than enough here for everyone so please mingle among yourselves or feel free to ask me anything you'd like."

There is a large dragon staring at the tables. Or, there WAS a large dragon, but now there's this youth standing in their place, looking over what's being offered for food.

It's good to get out every now and then, and Viatorus didn't have much of a choice when Runa spied Katsuya's spread. So, while his fiancée gushes over the selection of treats, he takes a cup of tea to a corner out of the way. Here, he takes out a book to do some sketching while he enjoys the warm weather, the tea, the sights, smells... and keeps an eye out for familiar faces.

It's a wonder she doesn't scream with delight. She certainly looks like she wants to. As soon as she spots the pastries she bounds over to fuss over them. Her hands are carefully kept away, but it's clear she's eager to touch and examine and adore them all.

"These are wonderful! They look so good! They smell so good! Ahh! But they're all perfect!"

Katsuya is not stuck manning this shindig alone! He's got the assistance of two bears that seem related to Ice Bear: a large Grizzy and Panda Bear, aptly named Grizz and Panda. The brown bear is helping set up tables and chairs, so the group of people have places to sit, but he's also out interacting with customers, getting them excited.

"Hey, how's it going pal? If you want some recommendations, I'm your bear!" Don't worry, Grizz is overly friendly and easy to approach.

If you're already seated and enjoying your breakfast, Panda is pushing a cart around with coffee, tea or other drinks. There's also a few baked goods in case you missed them while going through the line.

"O-oh...Would you like something to drink?" In comparison, Panda is definitely the shy one, but he's happy to be here helping.

If you want the elusive Ice Bear, he's manning the morning alcohol bar near the end of the food line, but it seems like the polar bear is aloof. Almost not here, mentally speaking...Your character might have to specifically ask for his time.

An event like this shouldn't need any real security. Nevertheless, there's a robot in plate armor leaning against the cafe wall, out of the way while she keeps an eye on the crowd. This is a friendly sort of gathering, so she's dressed down accordingly - which is to say she's only visibly carrying a sidearm at her hip, and she's left her helmet off. Her arms are folded comfortably, her posture relaxed, but she's ready to spring into action if there is any trouble. She doesn't think you can take chances with any occasion round here.

Beside her floats a much smaller robot, the points of his silver shell fluttering as he keeps watch with a single blue optic. If anything, he's more alert than his partner, and unlike her he's not shy about watching any children who turn up. He's not straying far from her side, either.

For the time being, all seems well and harmless. The pair aren't here to mingle, but the bigger robot has a friendly nod for those who catch her optic, and she's willing enough to talk or lend a hand to anyone who stops by.

Well, that's an inconvenient--oh! Much better. Katsuya can totally handle a human sized creature or person much more easily. He holds up a plate of croissants toward him.

"Hungry?"

This way and that a young lady flits between the tables all eager smiles and excitement. Katsuya sets down his plate of pastelitos and offers the young lady an empty plate.

"Anything in particular you want to try?"

A young man stands at the fringe of this gathering with his hood pulled up and hands shoved into his pockets. He doesn't say anything the first pass through when Grizz walks by, just keeps his head down.

Though when Panda comes by with drinks and a quieter voice he might see a familiar face look up from the ground, even if it's a bit dirty and his hair's gotten a bit long.

"Drrrrink, yeah. That...good."

There might be a bit of a shortage of meat for a few minutes, for Tatsuya has come to get his fill of them with some savory pastries as well. He returned to his table, where a bag of chips labeled "All Dressed" was placed next to a Vanilla Coke can and a laptop, and his hoodie was draped over the chair as a sign that it was already taken.

One glimpse at his laptop screen reveals he's watching the "We Are The Champions: Final Live In Japan" concert video of Queen.

Panda is helping to serve a mother and her son some juice when Josh approaches his cart, so it takes the bear a few seconds to notice the newcomer. The reaction he has is initially spooked, caught sightly off-guard by the scraggly teenager.

"S-Sure thing..." Panda nervously laughs, telling himself internally to calm down, as he gestures to the offered drinks. "What would you like?"

There's nothing alcoholic on the tray, alas. Something about the teen seems familiar, but Panda hasn't picked up that this is Josh. The friend he made at the cave months ago during movie night. The friend Grizz and Ice Bear have been searching for.

"What kind of tea is this?"

Jim's been trying to branch out from just his usual Black Coffee, All the Time kind of habits. Not so much for his own sake, but to try and find something Not Coffee for his fiance to enjoy. V's about his only friend though who doesn't also survive on The Bean aside from Spock, but the Vulcan pretty much only drinks that one herbal tea he likes so much.

"How's things?"

"Nat's got this place wired from top to bottom, keeping an eye and ear out for trouble."

Steve has a mug of coffee in hand, glancing around the plaza. He looks casual but Ghost and Blaze know him better than that. He's got his crystalline shield stashed someplace close by and his gaze doesn't stop moving despite his light hearted tones for the two bots.

"Good to see you two."

Above all else a super soldier has got to eat. Lately any gathering of lots of folks in the Nexus has been tricky and dangerous, so he's there to make sure nothing goes awry at this soiree. That's not to say he's not also going to be waiting in line like everyone else to get a plate of food to enjoy.

Once loaded up he'll find a table to settle down at but there's still a couple of places free.

There's a young woman passing by who happens to be very hungry. Iphigenia stops in her tracks when she sees the food, spying a delicious-looking strawberry scone, and makes a beeline for the tables.

She can be found daintily munching the scone, sitting on a nearby bench.

Amid all the pastries and eggs and savory dishes there is also a little side cart with salad options and a fruit bowl and it is from these options the old Vulcan will take from before finding an unoccupied seat to settle in and enjoy his meal.

"Is this seat taken?"

He waves off the croissants. "I've had my fill of croissants for a lifetime. I'm looking for something more... Hoshidan." He paused, then looked up. "I'm not making any sense, do I?"

First she smells the coffee--that's a new scent to her, something she doesn't recognize from back home. Then she sees the food. Oh. Hm. She's intrigued!

Penelope is here, and she is hungry, and so she takes a plate and cutlery and goes to wait in line. Feel free to chat her up, Nexus citizens!

Free food and a promise of good company is an excellent lure for a K'da and his Shontin, though the dangers of such gatherings are not forgotten. A warrior must always be vigilant, and Faris' head rises up from Chanath's shoulder to visually sweep the area like a living periscope. And to get a better look at the foods being offered, of course.

Chanath absently shifts her posture to accommodate the extra weight on her shoulder, moving closer to the tables to claim a plate and load it with sausages and some fruit-filled pastries. One would certainly be forgiven for assuming they are some strange two-headed alien as Chanath offers her symbiont a sausage.

Katsuya's question grabs her question and she smiles sheepishly, sinking into a shy shrug when she admits, "Everything."

Taking the plate, she pulls it close as she looks over everything. "There are so many choices. Even the things I recognise look so good... Oh, I don't know what to pick!" She smile at Katsuya. "Which is your favourite?"

Mornings are never the strong suit of some people in the Nexus and there's a red-haired woman dressed in not so casual attire, standing near the edge of the meet and greet, frantically texting someone on her phone about this sudden event. Her boyfriend need to get here asap or regret missing out on this breakfast of the century. Free breakfasts are okay. Free breakfasts from the Crossroads Cafe staff are worth dying for.

It's also worth waiting in line for Crossroads Cafe cooking, especially the delectable pastries Katsuya bakes and Ice Bear's signature pancakes, although seeing the bear act as a bartender is doubly surprising. Marie's just going to join the gathering masses of people waiting to get food, hoping it doesn't take too long to get some of that wonderful grub. She's still supposed to be getting work done, but getting food should count towards that.

A small orange kitten approaches, and stands watching Viatorus sketch for a moment, before stretching to put his paws on the man's knees. He wants to see. Meow.

Penelope, why are you waiting so far back in the line? Don't you want this wonderful food now?

Marie is near the front of the line and manages to see the queen quite a ways behind her. She's frantically waving her hand and gesturing for Penelope to join her. If anyone wants to fight over this, she can just argue that Penelope is royalty. No one should care anyways. Just get up here, please...she needs a friendly face to talk with, since most people are here with friends.

Hermione has a small plate of food herself, and when she spots Iphigenia, she decides to sit with the other woman.

"Hello! I hope we can actually share a conversation this time." The language-barrier LOL prevented a suitable conversation last time.

Hermione smiles up at the familiar face. And she moves over a little, to give him room. CJ, who is sleeping in her lap, only twitches an ear in response.

"Always room for you."

What an unique outfit. Hermione really appreciates her style. She is also curious about who the other woman must be texting right now.

"Have you been waiting long?"
