Wisdom begins in Wonder

She headed toward what looked to be a large building akin to something from back home, It was both an impressive and slightly comforting sight.
She scanned the area with her eyes, ears and other senses. Trying to make sure she was in the right place as she headed toward the stone steps. As well as keeping her eyes open for any hint or sign of her missing friend or any one who might know more about the nexus or other things of necessity and importance. Another part of her wondered if they might have a snack bar or vending machine that took the money she had on her as her tummy rumbled softly as she neared the large doors.

She wondered if there were a place for missing posters, and looked around for one as she cautiously looked around after poking her head in, looking for  a desk of some sort. "Ahem, excuse me, but I was wondering if there was a form or something to apply for a library card? " She half asks a bit rambly and nervous all of a sudden. She wasn't exactly sure why but she was worried for Sherlock and was in need of some information and uncertain about where and when to get things in this ever shifting environment.

Her smile returns easily enough when Ash accepts her offer. "You're welcome." She shifts the weight of her messenger bag and waits patiently for Ash's library card to print out. After the Khan invasion, she's been careful to keep her own stash of medical supplies, and a few other supplies. The Nexus is not nearly so safe as she once thought it was.

"Let's see, it should be... here we go." A nearby printer has already spit out a new library card. "Um... if you wanted to do what you needed to do at the library first, I can wait." She's in no rush to scurry off to her stack of books, however. If she has to look at one more schematic for a ship engine she knows nothing about, her head is going to explode.

"A bulletin board..." Adia frowns thoughtfully. "There's one around here somewhere. Near the periodicals, I think. I don't check it often, it's usually ads." If there's something important Adia needs to know, one of her Nexus friends clues her in. Or she stumbles on it accidentally -- that's happened a few times.

"Were you wanting to post something? Or were you looking for something in particular?"

She hands her the card, a mundane piece of plastic with a barcode on the back. It's a level of technology Adia seems comfortable with. "Do you want to sign the back?" she asks, already digging into her messenger bag for a pen. "In case it gets misplaced."

"Like a gardening or cooking club?" That sounds rather nice, now that Adia thinks about it. Not that she's had time to do either, especially not while stuck on a spaceship. But wait, what was that about a missing poster? Her concerned look returns. "Are you looking for someone?" Somewhat softer and sadder, she adds, "It's, um... it can be hard to find people here. Sometimes you need to ask around."

And sometimes you never find them again. But she doesn't want to depress her new friend.
chiron_survivor: (not sure about that)

It always makes Adia happy to help others, even with a small a gesture as offering someone a pen. She pulls one out -- a simple black ballpoint -- and gives it to Ash. She makes a mental note to clear out her messenger bag when she has a free moment. It's getting a little crowded and she doesn't like having to root around so much to find things.

"Oh... I'm sorry you haven't seen him in a while." It's a familiar story, one that makes her frown sympathetically. She's lost friends of her own like that. They stop showing up in the Nexus, and after a while their trail goes cold. "I'm afraid I don't know any detectives. What's his name? What does he look like?" It'd be pretty useful if she did know a detective, come to think of it. "Are you sure he's in the Nexus? He could have gone back to his world."

She pockets the pen, returning her smile with one of her own. She'd tell her to keep the pen if she didn't need it herself.

Not being from Earth or exposed to much Earth literature, the name doesn't ring any bells. The face in the pictures, though, is eerily familiar. Adia leans in a little, peering at the images, a small frown on her face. Didn't she recently meet a man who looked an awful lot like that? He was very... severe, however. Cold. Not the sort of person she could imagine Ash befriending. And he didn't say anything about being a detective.

"I saw someone who looked like him," she admits finally. "He was asking questions about revenge. He doesn't sound like your friend, though." Her eyes flick to Ash's and she shrugs apologetically. "That can happen here sometimes."

If Adia knew that she had been speaking with the infamous Khan, she'd be even more disturbed that Ash's friend and that vengeful man share the same face. As it is, she frowns sympathetically. "That's too bad, that your friend looks like so many others. It must cause a lot of confusion."

Tilting her head slightly, she adds, "Squeaky?"

"How many other people with his face have you come across?" she asks curiously. "Sometimes there are alternates in the Nexus. The same person, but from different realities. That's caused me a bit of confusion, but no trouble, thankfully."

She smiles a little at the thought of Ash calling this serious-looking man 'Squeaky'. It's cute and speaks a great deal to her affection for him. "His ability?" she gently questions. She is a scientist, as it turns out, but certainly not the kind to conduct crazy, unethical experiments. "He has a super power?"
chiron_survivor: (a shy smile)

[personal profile] chiron_survivor 2017-10-13 07:05 pm (UTC)(link)
"Ah... anywhere, I suppose." She shakes her head quickly. "Never mind, it's not important." She's dealt with plenty of instances of many people having the same face where she's from. Of course, that's because they're clones, but all the same, she's content to let the subject drop.

Considering that he's a detective, she's not surprised that he takes pride in his intellect. But that's something that most people don't bother to hide. She can tell that whatever his super power is, it's not something that should be shared lightly. At least, Ash doesn't seem to think so.

When she asks if Adia can keep a secret, Adia smiles. "I'd like to think so. I've been keeping the Nexus a secret for over three years now."
chiron_survivor: (you're kidding right?)

[personal profile] chiron_survivor 2017-10-14 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
"Sorry, I --" She cuts herself off, then smiles sheepishly. "I've had that problem, too, with someone I considered my best friend... but it was under unique circumstances. Not in the Nexus." She bites her lip worriedly, then asks, "You always figured it who it was, right? Eventually?"

Her attention returns to the sketchbook as Ash flips to the pages bearing sketches of a mouse dressed in tweed. She's unfamiliar with Disney or a mouse detective, but it's easy enough to figure out what her friend's secret is. "He turns into a mouse?" She looks from the drawings to Ash, to be sure that's the case.
chiron_survivor: (sad on the inside)

[personal profile] chiron_survivor 2017-10-14 04:59 pm (UTC)(link)
She smiles softly, appreciating Ash's sympathy. "It's okay... at least if it happens here, I'll be better prepared for it."

She won't assume that Sherlock is the same person as that unpleasantly cold man, at least. If he ever gets found. Which is starting to sound like a difficult prospect. If he's currently in mouse form, it'll be even harder to track him down. She worries at her lower lip, trying to think of something optimistic to tell her new friend. "What sort of places in the Nexus did he like to visit? Have you tried looking there?"
chiron_survivor: (over your shoulder)

[personal profile] chiron_survivor 2017-10-15 01:18 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh." She looks around again, as if seeing the library with fresh eyes. "We should look for him, then?" Spending as much time at the library as she does, there are still parts of it that she hasn't explored. It'd be easy for someone to lose themselves in here, doubly so for a small mouse.

The mention of the Khan invasion brings a sober expression to her face. "Was he hurt?" she asks in concern. "I was treating the injured in the Plaza, but I didn't see anyone like him pass by."

Places with interesting things describes about three-quarters of the Nexus, so it's not much of a lead. Her comment about cheese makes her smile, though. "Well, if we don't find any clues here, there's a cheese shop in the shopping district. I remember seeing it once when I was out with a friend." Adia supposes that if she were a mouse, that'd be a nice place to hide.

"Do you want to look around now? Or check the bulletin board first?" She takes a peek around the corner, but the robot librarian is still off cleaning up messes and grumbling about cage-wearing troublemakers. Her stack of books is untouched. "I can leave those there... I wasn't making much progress, anyway."

It's easy to sympathize with Ash's worry. Many people were injured that day. Many people died, their bodies still unclaimed. She's not sure anyone would want to kidnap her friend, but it's not outside the realm of possibility. "The anti-violence field," she confirms. She smiles at Ash in an attempt to be comforting. "It's true that it isn't perfect, but it is working fine now. And your friend is very smart, he'll know to stay in a safe area where he's protected by it."

She's glad that the cheese shop has cheered her up a little. "I've never been in," she admits. "It looks very nice, though."

She doesn't think twice about Ash having her hoodie up. That's a style choice for some folks, right? She smiles and waits for the other woman to gather up her things before leading her towards the periodical section. It's on the first floor and fortunately not one of the sections of the library that likes to change its location.

It would be nice to visit the cheese ship with her new friend. She smiles brightly at the suggestion, only hesitating slightly at the thought of how she'd pay for anything. "I'd like that. And an extra set of eyes would help in case your friend is there."
